Aledade’s executive team has been on the forefront of health care policy and technology innovation for over two decades – bringing an expert insider’s perspective to a complex and changing landscape.
Chief Executive Officer
Co-Founder and CEO Farzad Mostashari, MD has spent his career at the forefront of health care policy and health information technology. Dr. Mostashari is the former National Coordinator for Health IT at the Department of Health and Human Services, and served as a distinguished expert at the Brookings Institute’s Engelberg Center for HealthCare Reform. Prior to his work at the Office of the National Coordinator, he founded the NYC Primary Care Information Project, which equipped 1,500 physicians in underserved communities with electronic health records. He has spoken and written extensively on issues affecting health IT, ACOs, and health care policy and delivery. He has been published in the New York Times, the Journal of American Medical Association, and Health Affairs, among others. Dr. Mostashari received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine and his Masters in Population Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Executive Vice President, Provider Networks
Co-founder and Executive VP of Provider Networks, Mat Kendall, leads a team focused on building Aledade’s ACO network, developing ACO initiatives, expanding to new practices, improving patient care, and managing relationships with Aledade’s ACOs. Mat began his career as a health clinic executive, providing him first-hand knowledge of the needs, challenges, and opportunities for primary care physician practices. Mat also led the Department of Health and Human Service’s Regional Extension Center Project – the largest medical technical assistance project in history – connecting over 143,000 primary care physicians with local partners to support implementation of electronic health records. Mat has a Masters from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
Chief Technology Officer
As Chief Technology Officer, Edwin Miller leads a team of developers in creating cutting-edge software for Aledade physicians, including patient engagement software, EHR analytic tools, and intuitive platforms that give primary care doctors new insights into the health – and care – of their patients. Edwin is a two-decade veteran of health care software development, who has led the development of more than 30 nationally-recognized products across the health care technology landscape. He has headed the development of cloud-based software for CareCloud, digiChart, AthenaHealth, and others. Edwin has his MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.
Chief Legal Officer
Ilona Cohen is Aledade’s Chief Legal Officer. In this role, she oversees Aledade’s legal activities and policies. She joined Aledade after serving nearly four years in the White House, first as Special Assistant to the President and Associate White House Counsel and then as the General Counsel of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As General Counsel of OMB, she provided advice to President Obama and other senior advisors on legal and regulatory matters, policy development, litigation, and compliance. Ilona was also an integral part of designing and implementing the Administration’s technology initiatives, including standing up the U.S. Digital Service. Ilona has a broad range of experience and has served in senior legal roles at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and at the Senate Armed Services Committee. She started her legal career in private practice at the law firm WilmerHale. Ilona has her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Michigan.
Chief Administrative Officer
Sean Cavanaugh is Aledade’s Chief Administrative Officer. Sean has previously served as the Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He was responsible for overseeing the regulation and payment of Medicare fee-for-service providers, privately-administered Medicare health plans, and the Medicare prescription drug program. Previously Sean was the Deputy Director for Programs and Policy in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, where he was responsible for overseeing the development and testing of new payment and service delivery models, including ACOs and medical homes. Prior to that, Sean was Director of Health Care Finance at the United Hospital Fund. He has also served in senior positions at Lutheran Healthcare, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Health Insurance Access, and the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs and Product
Emily Maxson, MD is Aledade’s Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Product. An internist and primary care doctor, she oversees Aledade’s clinical strategy and the development of technology-enabled workflow solutions to drive success in value-based health care. Previously, she has worked with physicians in metro New York’s most underserved areas to disseminate prevention-oriented electronic health record systems through the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Primary Care Information Project and successfully launched the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Beacon Community Program to improve population health, quality, and cost efficiency. She was a practicing primary-care physician for several years in a federally qualified community health center before dedicating her career to population health. Dr. Maxson earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University School of Medicine and completed her medical training in internal medicine/primary care at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.
Senior Vice President, Adoption and Practice Success
Kim Lynch is Aledade’s Senior Vice President of Adoption and Practice Success. Kim believes change in health care happens one person and one community at a time, and has served as a catalyst for change in rural hospitals, small practices, and free clinics, as well as in system, payer, state and national roles. With that in mind, she leads Aledade’s product adoption and practice success efforts across our national network of independent practices. Before joining Aledade, Kim lead clinical transformation efforts at the US Department of Health and Human Services as the Director of Regional Extension (REC) Programs and then Director of Office of Programs and Engagement. She managed the $740M Health IT REC Program, working with over 145,000 primary care providers across the U.S. to adopt electronic health records (EHRs), enable delivery system reform, and most importantly, improve patient care. Kim has a B.A. in Public Administration and Public Policy from Michigan State University and an MPH from University of Michigan.
Chief Financial Officer
Charlie Colligan is Aledade’s Chief Financial Officer. In this role, Charlie is responsible for the overall financial performance of the company. Charlie has more than 25 years of experience in finance with expertise in developing and leading major strategic initiatives in sectors including financial services, technology, real estate, insurance, and government. Prior to his current role at Aledade, Charlie served as Treasurer for CoStar Group where he helped to scale the business from $200M revenue to $1.2B and market capitalization from $1B to $14B. Prior to CoStar Group, he was the Senior Vice President of Finance for Sallie Mae. He began his career at Merrill Lynch in the Capital Markets Group. Charlie graduated with honors in Economics from Harvard.
