Aledade Announces Participation in the National Academy of Medicine’s Climate Collaborative and 2022 Sustainability Commitments

After Achieving Carbon Neutrality in 2021, Aledade Continues to Lead on Health Sector Environmental Responsibility

Bethesda, Md. — April 22, 2022 — Aledade, the leading primary care enablement company, announced today that the company jointed as a Network Organization of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)’s Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector (Climate Collaborative). The company, which announced a commitment to carbon neutrality in 2021, announced additional sustainability commitments, including that its new health services arm, Aledade Care Solutions, will be carbon neutral in 2022.

“Our work at Aledade is rooted in the mission to do what is good for patients, doctors, and society, and investing in the health of our planet directly supports our goal to combat the negative public health impacts caused by our changing climate,” said Mat Kendall, President of Aledade. “We are very honored to be selected for the NAM Climate Collaborative, and look forward to joining other sustainability-minded companies to help reduce health care’s carbon footprint.”

The NAM Climate Collaborative is a public-private partnership of leaders from across the health system committed to addressing the sector’s environmental impact while strengthening its sustainability and resilience. Notably, the health sector is responsible for approximately 8.5 percent of U.S. carbon emissions. The Climate Collaborative will focus its work on health care supply chain and infrastructure; health care delivery; health professional education and communication; and policy, financing, and metrics. As a Network Organization, Aledade will collaborate with other member organizations to develop best practices, provide feedback to the Collaborative, and share evidence-based strategies for addressing climate change.

“I am incredibly proud of the impact that Aledade has made over the past year on carbon removal and advancing the conversation about the connection between climate and health, and look forward to working with NAM to expand on our internal efforts with other industry leaders” said Will Palmisano, a product analyst with Aledade who is leading the company’s sustainability efforts. “With our 2022 sustainability commitments, we intend to build on this progress and continue delivering better care in an environmentally responsible way.”

Last year, Aledade was recognized as one of the largest known purchasers of carbon dioxide removal (CDR), an area in which the company plans continued investment in 2022 and into the future. In addition, as part of the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality, Aledade purchased 2,583 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) destruction carbon offsets and 676 megawatt hours of 100 percent additional solar energy. Building on that success over the next year, Aledade has pledged that the company’s new health services arm, Aledade Care Solutions, will be carbon neutral. Aledade will also begin factoring climate considerations into its annual budgeting process, and will reduce non-essential travel to reduce overall emissions. The company will pursue long-term clean power purchase agreements to power its business, as well as continue its efforts to share best practices, and lobby together with other industry leaders for systemic change.
