Chief Executive Officer

Co-Founder and CEO Farzad Mostashari, MD has spent his career at the forefront of healthcare policy and health information technology. Dr. Mostashari is the former National Coordinator for Health IT at the Department of Health and Human Services, and served as a distinguished expert at the Brookings Institute’s Engelberg Center for HealthCare Reform. Prior to his work at the Office of the National Coordinator, he founded the NYC Primary Care Information Project, which equipped 1,500 physicians in underserved communities with electronic health records. In addition to his work at Aledade, Dr. Mostashari is the chair of the board of directors for Resolve to Save Lives – a global health organization that aims to save millions of lives from cardiovascular disease and infectious disease epidemics. He is also Co-Chair of the Health Evolution Summit. He has spoken and written extensively on issues affecting health IT, ACOs, and health care policy and delivery. He has been published in the New York Times, the Journal of American Medical Association, and Health Affairs, among others. Dr. Mostashari received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine and his Masters in Population Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Co-founder and President, Mat Kendall, leads a team focused on building Aledade’s ACO network, developing ACO initiatives, expanding to new practices, improving patient care, and managing relationships with Aledade’s ACOs. Mat began his career as a health clinic executive, providing him first-hand knowledge of the needs, challenges, and opportunities for primary care physician practices. Mat also led the Department of Health and Human Services’ Regional Extension Center Project – the largest medical technical assistance project in history – connecting over 143,000 primary care physicians with local partners to support implementation of electronic health records. Mat has a Masters from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Ananya Banerjee is Aledade’s Chief Commercial Officer, where she leads the business development team and works to grow and strengthen the company’s partnerships with commercial payers. Previously, Ananya was Chief of Strategic Payer Partnerships at ChenMed. Ananya also held various leadership roles at Optum, most notably as Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Strategy and Senior Vice President of OptumHealth. Ananya led Optum’s strategy and product team and drove organic capital deployment decision-making across all lines of business. Prior to Optum, she spent more than seven years as an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company in the health care practice and McKinsey’s Center for Healthcare Reform. Ananya received her MBA in corporate strategy from University of 334 and her bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

Sean Cavanaugh is Aledade’s Chief Policy Officer. Sean has previously served as the Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He was responsible for overseeing the regulation and payment of Medicare fee-for-service providers, privately-administered Medicare health plans, and the Medicare prescription drug program. Previously Sean was the Deputy Director for Programs and Policy in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, where he was responsible for overseeing the development and testing of new payment and service delivery models, including ACOs and medical homes. Prior to that, Sean was Director of Health Care Finance at the United Hospital Fund. He has also served in senior positions at Lutheran Healthcare, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Health Insurance Access, and the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Helena Christianson leads Aledade’s People team efforts including benefits, recruitment, retention and workplace culture that have earned Aledade recognition as a top employer.

Prior to joining Aledade, Helena led the people functions at top tier technology companies including Quantum Metric and Block, Inc. (FKA Square) and held pivotal roles at FitBit and Apple.

Her accomplishments include expanding the people practices of companies across North America, Europe and Asia and shepherding organizations through rapid growth and change.

John Doyle is Head of Strategy at Aledade, where he oversees and optimizes business activities, ensuring effectiveness and alignment with strategic goals. He previously served as Aledade’s Chief Financial Officer from 2021 to 2024. Prior to Aledade, John was Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors at Castlight Health, a publicly-held healthcare technology company, which he joined in 2012 as its Chief Financial Officer. Preceding Castlight, John spent more than 20 years primarily in the biotechnology industry where he had most recently been the Chief Operating Officer and then a member of the board of directors at Achaogen, a publicly-held firm focused on the development of life-saving antibiotics. John holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and received his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He serves on the board of directors of AltruBio and is a member of the 2012 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.

Ahmed Haque heads our Network Performance and Strategy efforts at Aledade. In this role, Ahmed is responsible for overall performance and shared savings revenue across Aledade’s network of ACOs. Ahmed has over 15 years of experience in healthcare solving problems related to quality, cost, and technology. Prior to joining Aledade, Ahmed was with U.S. Department of Health & Human Services where he led strategic initiatives to advance national adoption of interoperable health IT as well as programs to support delivery system reform in states and communities. Additionally, Ahmed advised various care delivery and payment models on quality measures, program design, and transformation. Prior to joining HHS, Ahmed was with the National Quality Forum and the American Hospital Association where he served in various roles impacting ambulatory and hospital-based health care providers. He attended DePaul University and Northwestern University.

Aaron McKethan is the CEO of Aledade Plus, the company’s health services unit. His prior roles in state and federal government, academia, and industry have centered on population health. Prior to joining Aledade, Aaron co-founded and led two health care data science and technology companies (NoviSci and RxAnte). Aaron holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also received his undergraduate degree. He is an adjunct professor in population health at the Duke School of Medicine and Senior Policy Fellow at the Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy. He also serves on several non-profit boards, including the Samaritan Health Center in Durham, NC.

Phuong Phillips is Chief Legal Officer for Aledade. Before joining Aledade, Phuong served as the Chief Legal Officer at Zynga where she oversaw all legal affairs and government relations for the company and its eventual sale to another interactive entertainment company. Prior to Zynga, Phuong served as Associate General Counsel for Tesla, Inc. and was the lead M&A attorney. Before that, Phuong spent more than six years at SolarCity as its Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Head of Corporate and Securities where she successfully scaled the company and led its initial public offering and eventual sale to Tesla. Before joining SolarCity, Phuong spent more than seven years at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Phuong currently serves as a Board Member of three organizations that serve underprivileged communities: Project Glimmer, Law Foundation of Silicon Valley and California Minority Counsel Program. Phuong has received numerous legal industry awards and has been recognized for her work promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. Phuong received her J.D. and bachelor’s degree from UCLA.

As Chief Financial Officer, Jessica Somers leads Aledade’s overall financial strategy, ensuring the organization remains well positioned to grow in service to its mission.

Jessica joins Aledade from Evolent, a publicly-traded company that specializes in improving health outcomes. At Evolent, Jessica led the development and execution of strategic growth investments, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic partnerships. In addition to her corporate development role, Jessica also served as CFO of New Century Health, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evolent focused on specialty care management under value-based arrangements. Prior to joining Evolent, Jessica spent nearly a decade in investment banking and private equity, most recently at Moelis & Company.

Jessica holds bachelor’s degrees in commerce and Asian studies from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ritwik Tewari is Aledade’s Chief Technology Officer, where he leads the company’s technology team and provides innovative solutions to support and expand its tech offerings to primary care physicians nationwide. Prior to joining Aledade, Ritwik spent seven years as Senior Director of Engineering at Meta (formerly Facebook), where he oversaw the Artificial Intelligence platform for the company’s multi-billion dollar advertisement platform. Prior to that, he spent ten years at Microsoft, where he helped found the company’s Azure cloud and held various management positions across the company’s technology teams. Ritwik began his technology career with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati – one of the top-ranked institutions in the country.

Rosemary Weldon is the Chief Product Officer for Aledade, leading a 200+ person team including product management, user design and research, practice implementation & impact analytics. Together these functions onboard, train, and integrate our practices, ingest healthcare data across  EHRs, payors, labs and HIEs & maintain and enhance the Aledade App which translates data into actionable insights and workflows to assist primary care practices improve access to preventive care and deliver better health outcomes through value based care. The team also supports multiple patient engagement and operational capabilities, and executes impact analytics work including patient identification, ACO composition and control studies of our interventions. Rosemary joined Aledade in August 2022 to build product capabilities enabling our A+ business line. 

Prior to Aledade, Rosemary led digital product management for CVS Health where her portfolio included digital capabilities in support of retail health clinics and national covid testing, virtual care , chronic care management, CVS’s health dashboard and CVS’s online account assets. She also led CVS’s digital retail assets including pharmacy delivery, loyalty programs, data science platforms and ecommerce. Before her time in the Digital group, Rosemary built a strategy, analytics and negotiation team in support of CVS’s consumer retail business. 

Before joining CVSHealth, Rosemary served private and nonprofit healthcare, consumer, and education clients as a strategy consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and Bridgespan. Rosemary earned an AB in Government from Harvard College and an MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. Rosemary lives with her husband and three children outside Boston Massachusetts.

Gui Woolston oversees Aledade’s business intelligence, analytics and actuarial teams and spearheading the development of data warehouses, governance and management frameworks for data, as well as tools for reporting and visualization.

Prior to joining Aledade, Gui served as the director of Connecticut Medicaid, which provides health coverage to one in four of the state’s residents. Prior to that, he ran the analytics team for Caremark, the pharmacy benefits manager under CVS that provides prescription drug coverage to 100 million Americans. Gui also has served as director of data science at the health analytics startup Nuna Health. 

He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a doctorate in economics from Stanford University.

David Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.P., is an internationally-renowned academic physician and health care policy expert. He is the former president of the Commonwealth Fund, a national philanthropy engaged in independent research on health and social policy issues. He is formerly the Samuel O. Thier Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief Health Information and Innovation Officer at Partners Healthcare System in Boston (now Mass General Brigham). From 2009 to 2011, he served as the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Previously, Dr. Blumenthal was a practicing primary care physician, director of the Institute for Health Policy, and professor of medicine and health policy at Massachusetts General Hospital/Partners Healthcare System and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Blumenthal received his undergraduate, medical, and public policy degrees from Harvard University and completed his residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Paul Hennessy is a leader with extensive global marketing and management experience, as well as experience with domestic and international start-ups. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Shutterstock. From June 2016 to May 2022, Mr. Hennessy served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Vroom, Inc., an online pre-owned car retailer. Prior to joining Vroom, Mr. Hennessy served as Chief Executive Officer of priceline.com, a provider of online travel and travel related reservation and search services and, prior to that, as Chief Marketing Officer of Booking.com, an online booking accommodations provider. Mr. Hennessy holds a B.S. in marketing management from Dominican College and an M.B.A. from Long Island University.

Joyce A. Sackey, M.D., FACP, Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CEDIO) and Associate Dean at Stanford Medicine, is one of the nation’s foremost experts in advancing health equity, diversity and inclusion. Dr. Sackey currently serves as Stanford Medicine’s inaugural CEDIO and is also Associate Dean and Clinical Professor at the Stanford School of Medicine.

Michelle Ryan is a financial executive with significant experience in healthcare. She retired at the end of 2021 as the Treasurer of Johnson & Johnson, where she worked for almost 30 years. As Treasurer, she had responsibility for providing financial oversight and insights to J&J’s M&A activities. Additionally, she had responsibility for managing J&J’s global retirement assets, capital market transactions, and risk management activities.

Prior to this role, she worked in various financial leadership roles across J&J’s businesses, including as CFO of the Global Consumer Business and CFO for the Pharmaceutical Business of the Americas. She has a proven track record of delivering competitive results while also focusing on growing and developing the organization. She began her career with Deloitte & Touche and was certified as both a CPA and CMA.

Julie Sunderland is a Managing Director of Biomatics Capital, a new $200mm venture capital fund investing in breakthrough science and technology that will transform the practice of medicine and delivery of healthcare, especially in the genomics and digital health sectors. Until recently, Ms. Sunderland was the Director of Program Related Investments for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she was responsible for managing the foundation’s $1.5 billion program-related investment (PRI) pool which focuses on strategic investments in global health, global development, and US education. Ms. Sunderland founded the PRI program in 2009 as a $400 million pilot and grew the portfolio to 50 investments comprising a range of investment structures (equity, loans, guaranties, funds), sectors (biotech, health commodities, health delivery, agriculture, digital payments, charter schools, education technology), and geographies (US, Europe, Africa, India, China). She built and led a team of 10 investment professionals and chaired the foundation’s investment committee that reviews all program-related investments undertaken by the foundation. Ms. Sunderland holds a BA from Harvard University, an MBA from Wharton Business School and an MA from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Dr. Bijan Salehizadeh is the co-founder of NaviMed Capital, where he serves on the firm’s Investment Committee, leading investments with a particular focus on health care providers and pharmaceutical services. He has served on multiple private and public company boards. Dr. Salehizadeh is a physician by background, with more than a decade and a half in health care operations and investment experience. Before he co-founded NaviMed, Dr. Salehizadeh was a general partner at Highland Capital Partners and held management and operational roles at MedTronic and HealthCentral. He holds an AB in Molecular Biology from Princeton University, an MD and Master’s in Science in Health Policy from Columbia University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is also a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program

Phyllis Yale is an Advisory Partner in Bain & Company’s Boston office. She joined the firm in 1982 and was elected to the partnership in 1987. Ms. Yale has been a leader in building Bain’s health care practice for more than 35 years. Over her career she has worked with health care payers and with providers across the continuum of care, and she frequently advises the world’s leading private equity firms on their investments in the health care sector.

Ms. Yale was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Pinnacle Award by the Boston Chamber of Commerce, a Lifetime Achievement award by Consulting Magazine, and was named by Working Mother magazine as one of the top 25 working mothers. She has published articles in the Harvard Business Review and in Vivo, among other publications, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, including several times at The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos.
