Aledade partners with National Voter Registration Day Coalition to Encourage Voter Registration

September 17, 2024

Bethesda, MD  Aledade, the nation’s largest network of independent primary care, has joined a coalition of thousands of partners across the country to support National Voter Registration Day today, which encourages Americans to register to vote. This partnership is one of several efforts Aledade is taking to encourage civic engagement.

“Aledade’s participation in National Voter Registration Day enables us to use civic action to bolster our commitment to create a more equitable health care system that is good for patients, practices and society,” said Tamara Thomas, Vice President of Equity & Inclusion at Aledade. “Aledade’s partnership with the National Voter Registration Day coalition furthers its commitment to civic engagement as a means of addressing the social drivers of health and elevates both awareness and engagement to vote among historically marginalized and disinvested communities.”

More groups recognize the link between voting and social drivers of health. The American Public Health Association has found that states that make elections more accessible through policies such as automatic and same-day registration, among other voting options, enjoy higher levels of voter participation and stronger public health outcomes. The American Medical Association has passed Resolution 422, which acknowledges that “voting is a social determinant of health and significantly contributes to the analyses of other social determinants of health as a key metric.”

First observed in 2012, National Voter Registration Day has helped more than 5 million Americans become registered to vote. The civic holiday’s website, https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org, lists National Voter Registration Day events across the country and includes comprehensive and state-specific resources on voter registration and voting more generally.

This year’s holiday is a major opportunity to get millions of Americans registered to vote in advance of the presidential election; there’s no time like National Voter Registration Day to ensure every eligible American is ready to vote this November 5th

On September 17th, partner organizations ranging from local libraries and college campuses to Fortune 500 companies will coordinate a wave of online and offline events to drive attention to voter registration. Aledade’s civic engagement efforts include Power the Polls, which gives employees the chance to use a paid volunteer day to serve as a poll worker on Election Day. In addition, Aledade partners with Vot-ER, a non-partisan voter education organization. Through Vot-ER, providers can get a free Vot-ER badge that, when scanned, accesses a non-partisan, self-service voter platform where they can register, request a mail-in ballot, and get election reminders.
