FIRST Program

Primary care pathway

Your introduction to value-based care

The Aledade FIRST (Fostering Independence, Readiness, Sustainability, and Togetherness) program is designed to highlight the primary care pathway by educating new physicians on value-based care (VBC) and showcasing career opportunities in Aledade FIRST partner practices and community health centers (CHCs).

This program is designed to welcome the curious and provide the dedicated with a strong set of skills aimed at enhancing, rather than replacing, the training new physicians undergo in their formal residency programs.

“The Aledade FIRST program has been a pivotal supplement to my growth as a physician with the goal of providing value based care (VBC) to the individuals within my community. The thoughtful monthly discussions are exceptional in my gaining understanding of VBC, filling the gaps in knowledge that are not frequently taught in medical school and graduate medical education programs.
William Glover, MD, MAHEC, Asheville, N.C.

The Aledade impact

The Aledade FIRST program was launched in October 2022 to address the shortage of primary care physicians in the United States. This shortage is compounded by unsustainable workloads, low relative compensation and overwhelming education debt, making it difficult for independent and community health practices to recruit physicians.

Aledade FIRST is a stipend-based, value-based care (VBC) training curriculum for PGY 2 and 3 primary care residents. It addresses the need to prepare residents for the transition to VBC-focused practice. The curriculum includes content on key VBC initiatives, practice management and health equity.

The program is expanding into new markets and residency programs in 2025, as Aledade continues to foster and strengthen relationships that lead to primary care practice placement across our national network.
